The Microverse Cluster aims to be welcoming and supportive of all members. We believe that diversity makes our research stronger and our lives richer. We also recognize that our unique position gives us the responsibility as well as the opportunity to make an equitable working environment for all in the cluster, as well as have a positive impact on our community in Jena.
Creating an open and inclusive environment is the task and responsibility of every Microverse member and participant of Microverse events. Equity in workplaces is a work in progress.
Each and every one of us plays an important role in creating a supportive and welcoming work environment. We see any form of discrimination, unfair behavior and bullying as contrary to our vision of a fully equitable and inclusive research community.

The Microverse Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive, equitable, and empowering environment for all Cluster members, across all career stages. Guided by feedback from our culture surveys and endorsed by the Microverse executive board, our evolving DEI program champions a workplace where every voice is heard and valued.
We commit to fostering a Culture of Awareness, Active Listening, and Reflection, promoting Staff Equity, building Strong Communities, enabling Workplace Success Now and in the Future, and ensuring Sustainability in our efforts. Together, we are shaping a workplace where diversity thrives, equity is the standard, and inclusion is lived daily.
All ideas for a diverse and inclusive community are important to us! We support the organization of events—whether it's celebrating a religious holiday, hosting workshops on a specific DEI topic, or something else entirely. Contact: Silvia
Culture of Awareness
Creating an open and inclusive environment is the task and responsibility of every Microverse member. Recognizing the impact of unconscious biases shaped by our cultural backgrounds, we prioritize ongoing education and dialogue as well as active counteraction against discrimination.
We prioritize open communication channels and regularly solicit feedback. By actively addressing challenges identified through feedback, we ensure that our support measures are responsive to the evolving needs of our community. We provide support for all issues concerning physiological and mental well-being by readily available contact persons.
We are dedicated to providing all staff with equitable access to opportunities, resources, and support to help them thrive both professionally and personally. For researchers with family responsibilities, we offer assistance and information to help balance work and family life. Our collaboration with the 'Scientists and Career Jena Network' further strengthens the support available within our community.
Through regular onboarding meetings, community discussions, and networking events, we foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie among our members. We offer various opportunities to exchange ideas, share experiences and build a better workplace.
Investing in the success of our researchers now and in the future is essential. We provide training in skills needed for the success in the current research environment as well as for the next career phase, and financial support for research groups.
Sustainability is key to our DEI efforts. With dedicated resources and ongoing coordination from our scientific coordinator, we ensure that our DEI measures are implemented effectively and tailored to the needs of our community. Continual evaluation will guide the evolution of our initiatives to promote a more inclusive and supportive research environment.
