We advocate for the next generation of scientists by supporting doctoral candidates in our graduate school.

At the heart of our commitment to the next generation of scientists stands the Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC). As one of Jena’s leading graduate schools, JSMC supports doctoral candidates with excellent training, interdisciplinary research opportunities, and a vibrant international community.

The JSMC provides a rigorous, interdisciplinary doctoral training program focused on unravelling the chemical communication of microorganisms. Doctoral projects span across the intersections of biology, chemistry, medicine, geology, opto-physics, and bioinformatics. Within the JSMC network, researchers collaborate with institutes and clinics at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, alongside non-university research institutions and biotech companies.

Special offerings of the JSMC within the PostDoc and PhD programs include, among others, scientific training courses and soft skill courses, external and internal mentoring programs, and resources to strengthen mental health.
