Axel Brakhage elected as Vice President of the DFG

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has two new vice presidents: during the annual general meeting, the general assembly of the DFG elected molecular biologist professor Axel Brakhage and engineering scientist Hans Hasse into the executive board of Germany’s largest science founding organization. Brakhage succeedes professor Katja Becker who is the President of the DFG since early 2020, Hasse assumes the office of professor Frank Allgöwer. Julika Griem and Roland A. Fischer were elected to resume their offices as vice presidents of the DFG.

Axel A. Brakhage holds the Chair of Microbiology and Molecular Biology at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and is Scientific Director of the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology (Leibniz-HKI). His research focuses on the infection biology of human pathogenic fungi, microbial communication, the search for microbial agents and the development of antibiotics. He is spokesperson of the Cluster of Excellence Balance of the Microverse as well as the Collaborative Research Center FungiNet.
