Congratulations to Dr. Martin Taubert on Successfully Defending his Habilitation Thesis!

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Martin Taubert, Junior Research Group Leader at the Cluster of Excellence "Balance of the Microverse" at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, successfully defended his habilitation thesis on June 11th. This remarkable achievement marks an important milestone in his academic and scientific career.
Dr. Taubert’s habilitation thesis, entitled "Following C1-derived carbon through microbial communities," significantly advances our understanding of microbial interactions and carbon fluxes, an area central to comprehending Earth's ecosystem dynamics. His innovative use of stable isotope probing (SIP) techniques and Raman-based single-cell sorting has provided groundbreaking insights into microbial ecology and metabolism.
Reflecting on his accomplishment, Dr. Taubert shared:
"Defending my habilitation is a moment of great personal achievement, and I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support from my mentors, colleagues, and family who helped me reach this milestone. This journey has been driven by my passion for exploring the processes carried out by microbial communities, and I am excited to continue my research to improve our understanding of how our microscopic companions shape and maintain Earth's ecosystems."
Dr. Taubert's dedication to research excellence has consistently driven the Cluster forward. His extensive academic journey includes impactful positions at the University of East Anglia, the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig, and various innovative projects at the University of Jena.
We warmly congratulate Dr. Taubert on this extraordinary achievement and look forward to his continued contributions to microbial ecology.
