DFG Programme Director Dr. Andreas Strecker Visits the University of Jena

Expert Talk and Individual Consultations Support Life Science Researchers in Advancing Their Academic Careers
On June 17, 2025, Dr. Andreas Strecker, Programme Director of the Life Sciences 2: Microbiology, Immunology, Neurosciences group at the German Research Foundation (DFG), visited the University of Jena to provide expert guidance on DFG funding programs and career development strategies for early career researchers in the life sciences.
As part of the event organized by the Cluster of Excellence "Balance of the Microverse" for Jena’s early career researchers, Dr. Strecker delivered a highly informative lecture covering the structure, funding instruments, and support programs of the DFG. Attendees gained valuable insights into the proposal process, with practical tips for successfully securing research grants and aligning project ideas with DFG expectations.
The presentation not only clarified the DFG’s funding landscape but also provided strategic advice for early career researchers on how to structure compelling applications, navigate the review process, and plan their academic careers.
Following the talk, several early career researchers from the University of Jena and non-university research institutes had the chance to meet Dr. Strecker in dedicated 1:1 consultation sessions. These meetings allowed participants to discuss individual project ideas, clarify eligibility concerns, and receive personalized feedback on proposal planning.
The event reflects the Clusters strong commitment to supporting researchers through targeted career development initiatives and knowledge exchange.
