Mittelerde Meeting 2024

From February 29 to March 1, 2024, the 5th Central German Conference on Bioinformatics is held in the auditorium of Friedrich Schiller University Jena. With a focus on bioinformatics and theoretical systems biology, these fields are integral to the Cluster of Excellence "Balance of the Microverse," impacting various biological domains, including microbial ecology.

This event has drawn 149 scientists and students, primarily from Thuringia, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt - Featuring 27 lectures and a welcome address by Prof Dr Kirsten Küsel, our Microverse spokesperson, including keynote presentations by renowned bioinformaticians Nicola Zamboni (Zurich), Birte Kehr (Regensburg), and Bas Dutilh (Microverse Jena), along with 53 poster presentations.

Informally known as the "Middle Earth Meeting," coined by Prof. Peter Stadler of the University of Leipzig during an earlier conference, the event's official name is the "Central German Meeting on Bioinformatics." The term "Middle Earth" has become widely adopted due to its memorability. This local conference fosters strong regional networking due to short distances between cities like Jena and Leipzig.
