New building for Cluster of Excellence

The proposal for a new research building for the Cluster of Excellence Balance of the Microverse was evaluated positively by the German Council of Science and Humanities (WR). During the spring session of the WR the future Microverse Center was found eligible for promotion. On July 5th, the Joint Science Conference (GWK) will decide about the funding of the Microverse Center conclusively.

The federal government and the state of Thuringia have approved plans to build a new research center for the Cluster of Excellence Balance in the Microverse on the Beutenberg Campus in Jena. The WR - the central science policy advisory body of the federal and state governments - has confirmed the funding application of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and will recommend the project to the  GWK of the federal and state governments. This was announced by the WR jointly with the Thuringian Ministry of Science on May 10th. Assuming a positive final vote by the GWK, the federal government will cover half of the costs for the new Microverse Center Jena (MCJ) amounting to more than 40 million euros. The other half will be borne by the Free State of Thuringia. Construction will start in 2020 and completed in 2024. The 4,900 square meter research center will become the core premises of the new Cluster of Excellence Balance in the Microverse, which the University of Jena was awarded in September 2018.
