Two exciting seminars are coming up in September, featuring talks on marine microbial ecology and bacterial RNA regulation.
On September 11, Hisashi Endo, from the Institute for Chemical Research at the Kyoto University, will present “Plankton cell lysis in the sea: Moving from concept to quantification”, exploring the processes and consequences of plankton cell lysis in the marine environment and approaches to quantifying these processes.
- September 11, 2026 | 11 am to 12 pm | Microverse Center Jena, Conference Hall, Level 2, Rosalind-Franklin-Str. 5, 07745 Jena (Please use the main entrance at Winzerlaer Str.)
On September 29, Prof. Sivaramesh Wigneshweraraj, Professor of Molecular Microbiology at Imperial College London, will give a talk entitled “The canonical and non-canonical functions of a major bacterial RNA matchmaker in growth-arrested bacteria”. His presentation will explore the roles of bacterial RNA regulation in cells experiencing growth arrest.
- September 29, 2026 | 12.15 to 1.15 pm | Microverse Center Jena, Conference Hall, Level 2, Rosalind-Franklin-Str. 5, 07745 Jena (Please use the main entrance at Winzerlaer Str.)
All interested researchers and members of the Microverse community are warmly invited to attend both seminars.

Doors Open with "Die Maus": A Journey into the Microverse
October 3, 2026 | from 10 am | Microverse Center Jena, Rosalind-Franklin-Str. 5, 07745 Jena
On October 3, 2026, the Microverse Center Jena will open its doors to young explorers as part of Türen auf mit der Maus – inviting children aged 6 to 12 to discover the fascinating world of microbes.
Across several hands-on sessions, young visitors will embark on a journey into the microverse, learning how tiny organisms help clean water, make bread rise, and can even produce light in the dark. They will explore a real research laboratory, take part in exciting experiments, and get a glimpse of what it means to be a scientist.
A huge thank you in advance to all the scientists and team members who are contributing their time, enthusiasm, and expertise to make this special day possible. Your commitment will help turn cutting-edge microbiology into an exciting, hands-on experience for our youngest visitors.
The event is already fully booked, with around 60 children set to take part across six sessions throughout the day – a wonderful response and a great start for outreach activities in our new research building!
